That He’d bless without breaking.
Build without cutting.
Promote without first refining.
But then life hit a stretch of gravel.
As a CEO, I faced a pruning season that stripped me raw.
And that’s when everything changed.
It didn’t feel like a gift at the time. It felt like failure. Loss. Confusion.
But something happened in the rubble:
I met a deeper version of God…and a truer version of myself.
Because that’s what pruning does.
It doesn’t just remove what’s unneeded.
It reveals what’s eternal.
This is what a CEO told about his experience God breaking us for making us more shiming followers of Christ.
“Be glad in this… though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith… may result in praise…” 1 Peter 1:6–7
At first, I wanted to outrun it. Then I wanted to rush through it.
Now?
I’ve learned to watch for it. To listen for the knock of pruning shears. Not because I enjoy it…But because I trust what God is doing through it.
No, I don’t seek pain. And yes — some pruning still stings when I talk about it.
But I wouldn’t erase it. Because pruning became the platform for deeper renewal. Stronger faith. And a life that looks more like Christ.
God’s timing rarely feels right to us.
But pruning is never random.
It’s not punishment.
It’s preparation.
And it’s why I now ask God:
“Show me what You’re cutting — and why. Help me not to resist what You’re trying to reveal.”
WHAT ABOUT YOU?
Are you trying to just “get past” something…when God is asking to talk through it first?
